25-Storey building collapsed in Lagos,Upmarket Ikoyi

News flying the whole of Lagos today is the collapse of the 25-Storey building which is located at upmarket Ikoyi in Lagos, Nigeria’s most commercial capital and most populated city.

The collapsed structure is located at Gerard Road, Ikoyi. Reports say the building has been under construction.
It was learnt that the incident happened a few minutes past 2 pm.
Details are still very sketchy.

It remains unclear just how many persons are trapped under the rubble at the time of reporting.

Emergency services are already on the scene on the time of reporting. Trying to fish out the survivors from heavy blocks and metals.

Television footage shows young men milling round and round the site.

The spokesman for the Lagos State Emergency Agency, Nosa Okunbo, confirmed this, saying, “A 25-storey building collapsed by Musliu Junction, Ikoyi, Lagos. LASEMA is on top of the situation.”

Also, the Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, noted that heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment have been deployed to the scene.
Two victims have been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building by volunteers and emergency agencies on the ground.

The rescued victims have since been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for an immediate medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Babafemi Hamzat, has arrived at the scene of the incident.
