The president of Nigeria has began the week with promises that the federal government will honor promises made to ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities).
This, According to the President, was to prevent disruptive strikes, engender uninterrupted academic programmes and improve funding of education institutions.

The President has made this pledge on Feb. 1, when he received members of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) which was led by the Co-Chairs, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Samson Ayokunle.

ASUU, has on Friday, expressed great doubts over the ability of the Federal Government to resolve the lingering crisis hovering around the education sector, particularly the universities, threatening that the union might soon commence an indefinite strike.

However, the President made it known that no society which wished itself well neglected its educational system and all its component parts.
