A total of Eleven universities exist in Lagos State, of which two are owned by the federal government, three are owned by the state government and the other six are privately owned.
LAGOS STATE
Lagos State (in Yoruba: ÃŒpÃnlẹ̀ Èkó) is a state located in southwestern Nigeria. Of the 36 states, it is the most populous and also smallest in area. Bounded to the south by the Bight of Benin and to the west by the international border with Benin Republic, Lagos State borders Ogun State to the east and north making it the only Nigerian state to border only but just one other state. Named for the city of Lagos—the most populous city in Africa—the state was however formed from the Western Region and the former Federal Capital Territory as at 27th May 1967
